Meeting point for cities, investors, researchers, industries, SME and other actors

To help European cities and industries cope with future challenges such as innovation, energy efficiency, low-carbon development and CO2 reduction, the European Commission launched the European Innovation Partnership on Smart Cities and Communities, EIP-SCC for short, in 2012. This partnership aims to create an open, cooperative marketplace for intelligent city solutions at the interface of transport, energy and ICT and to drive market transformation through the development and replication of solutions on a large scale. In October 2020, the EIP-SCC changed its name to Smart Cities Marketplace and thus integrated the former Smart City project Smart Cities Information System (SCIS).

The role of the marketplace is to carry out matchmaking activities to promote market acceptance and to complement EU funding activities, which should lead to total funding of at least 50 million euros per year. In addition, a roadmap is drawn up, taking into account the focus of mediation and market acceptance with clearly defined milestones and results.

As a project partner, the SEZ supports: the Dissemination and Communication of the project activities and outcomes with a project website, social media activities and other promotional materials, press releases, videos, web seminars, workshops, conferences, etc.; the Improvement of internal communication within the various projects as well as external communication of project results to the public and interested parties; the Organization of matchmaking opportunities and participation in events such as the Smart City Expo in Barcelona, the Nordic Edge in Stavanger or the European Sustainable Energy Week in Brussels; the Promotion of the replication of successful strategies and methods.
