LUCRA Workshop at the Renewable Materials Conference
Save the Date for the Renewable Materials Conference, taking place in Siegburg, Germany, from 22-24 September 2026!
Organised by the nova-Institut GmbH, the international conference addresses the latest developments and opportunities in bioeconomy, CCU, and recycling for the defossilisation of chemicals and materials.
The EU-funded project LUCRA will host the workshop “Making bio-based textiles competitive: policy levers for industrial scale-up and market uptake” on 23 September from 9:20-10:50, in collaboration with the NEXT-STEP project. Together with experts and stakeholders, we will discuss current policy developments, their impact on the textile value chain, and explore the missing links needed to enable industrial scale-up and market uptake of bio-based textile solutions.
How do LUCRA and NEXT-STEP fit in the biobased textile industry?
The bio-based succinic acid produced in LUCRA can be used for the production of polyester-based polyols, bio-based resins, and polyurethane dispersions, enabling several applications in the textile industry, for example functional textile coatings. The bio-based platform chemicals developed in Next-Step enable the production of non-isocyanate polyurethane (NIPU) foams and polylactic acid (PLA) copolymers for footwear applications, such as shoe midsoles and outsoles.
Both projects support the materials transformation within the texile industry: Away from fossil resources and problematic chemicals, such as PFAS.
