SciMo – Elektrische Hochleistungsantriebe GmbH1,9 million euro EU funding for next-generation electric traction motors

SciMo - Elektrische Hochleistungsantriebe GmbH from Karlsruhe, Germany, has successfully been awarded €1.94 million of EU funding in the EIC Accelerator programme for its project "eMONIC - The Next Generation of Automotive Electric Motor". The start-up has developed a new motor winding technology that makes it possible to increase the power density of electric traction motors to up to 10 kW/kg, thus saving up to 75% of motor weight and thus also 75% of resources such as copper, steel and rare earths. In the eMONIC project, the necessary automation of the production of this winding for series production is to be developed.

This will make it possible to produce SciMo motors, which are currently only available as prototypes or in small series production, much more cheaply and in larger quantities in order to also enter the e-mobility sector. With up to 75% higher material efficiency and the resulting lighter and smaller motors, SciMo will also make an important contribution to some of the main goals of the EU Commission's European Green Deal, such as the transition to sustainability and smart mobility and the conversion of industry to a circular economy as well as climate protection goals.

SciMo was the first company from Baden-Württemberg to be awarded funding under the EIC Accelerator funding programme, in which 1,109 companies applied with their innovative projects in this funding round. SciMo is one of 99 companies that will receive funding to support the market launch of their promising technologies. Funded by the Ministry of Economics, Labour and Tourism Baden-Württemberg, the Steinbeis Europa Zentrum was able to support SciMo in their application to the EIC Accelerator funding programme.

„The Steinbeis Europa Zentrum supported us through the individual stages of the application process and helped us with valuable tips and expertise, from the video pitch and a project outline to the written application and the interview. We were very satisfied with the whole process.“
